How to Create, Share, and Track your E-cards

The 3 steps to building effective relationships with your contacts through e-cards

Using e-cards has never been easier. Ever since the developments in technologies such as Flash animation and MMS for mobile phones, e-cards have become a key driver of establishing connections with others around the world.

For your business, it can play a pivotal role in extending your relationships with stakeholders and can serve as an exceptional marketing tool that is both budget and environment friendly. On occasions such as New Year holidays, Easter Monday, Ramadan and Chinese New Year, it can present excellent opportunities for your business to present special offers or provide information on upcoming products to your network of contacts without coming off as overly opportunistic. These campaigns can further be tracked and evaluated to measure its impact on your turnover which would be far more expensive and difficult in the case of using printed cards.

So how can you start using e-cards to further your business goals? Here are the 3 steps to do just that.

Create your personalized e-cards

Creating your e-cards is as easy as A, B, C. Numerous companies provide free or low cost services to create corporate e-cards. All that is required of you is choosing a template consisting of either an image or an animation, and personalizing the text according to the contact that you wish to send.  However, an off-the-shelf template that does not contain your logo and company information may prove counter-effective due to its lack of branding for your business.

A bespoke template containing an image appropriate for the occasion along with your company logo and product or service offer, if applicable, would be more appropriate. It is also critical to include the name of the contact person as it will help the message to be received with more geniality.

Share the e-cards with your contacts

After you have finished designing your e-cards, you could either send them through your company email account or ask the e-card company to do it on your behalf. The former is usually a better option provided that the e-mails can be personalized according to the relationships you have with your contacts. To do this, a separate company email account could be created that can consist of lists of different contacts to be targeted for one specific occasion for instance.

Caution needs to be exercised when sending the same e-card to more than one contact; adding too many contacts under bcc could increase the likelihood of your email to be marked as spam. It is best to send each e-card separately for higher deliverability. Moreover, you can customize the e-mail text to reflect your informal relationships for effectiveness. Sharing e-cards on your Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin profile pages is another good way to increase your reach.

Track your e-card campaigns

You can track sent e-cards via an e-card company or through e-mail tracking software. Since e-cards consist of html, it allows a tracking code to be installed via analytics software that allows it to be traced and monitored. Details related to the date of the sent card are shown along with the number of contacts who opened the card along with the number of times the opened card has been viewed. Unlike with printed cards, e-cards help you measure the effectiveness of the campaign.

E-cards can prove to be instrumental in maintaining and growing your network of contacts at a low cost, unlike printed cards. It also can enable your business to become more customer-oriented and take your marketing gains to new heights.

Do you use E-Cards as a marketing tool (E.g. present special offers; provide information on upcoming products; other)?
